Children from Carlow, Kilkenny, and Laois enjoyed a lively and engaging atmosphere at South East Technological University during the 2025 Summer Activity Camps, held from 14 to 25 July at the Carlow Campus. The camps made use of the university’s state of the art sports facilities, including GAA, soccer, and athletics grounds, as well as the South Sports Campus.
The programme offered participants opportunities to make new friends, develop skills, be creative, and stay active. A highlight was the Olympics event featuring fun competitions such as the potato and spoon race, sack race, beanbag throw, and shoe race on the 400 metre track.
This year also saw the return of the popular Glow Soccer activity, introduced in 2024, where UV paint, tape, and lights created a glow in the dark environment for a unique sporting experience.
Paula Hickey, Sports Office Supervisor at SETU and camp organiser, expressed delight at hosting another successful year of camps, emphasising the importance of community outreach and the joy of seeing participants’ enthusiasm each day.
The camp’s varied schedule included arts and crafts, athletics, badminton, computing, Gaelic football, rounders, soccer, tag rugby, table tennis, fun games, and uni hockey, along with an outing to Portlaoise Leisure Centre for swimming and a picnic in the park. The event was supported by SETU staff, students, and graduates dedicated to providing a memorable summer for local children.
SETU is already preparing for the 2026 Summer Activity Camps.
