
A student from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen has won the Magnesia Award for Best Student Comic at this year’s Muriel Awards ceremony in Prague.Maxmilián Hrstka impressed the jury with his gothic drama Ulrich, created as his bachelor’s thesis. The nearly 100-page comic, combining digital and traditional techniques, tells the story of a young man whose attempt to transform himself through forbidden knowledge ends tragically. Two other faculty students were also nominated in the same category.The award highlights the strong presence of young comic artists from Pilsen on the Czech scene. The author plans to publish Ulrich as the first part of a trilogy.
