Veterinary students from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn have created a practical guide to help horse breeders better manage pregnancy and birth in mares. The publication, released as a free e-book, aims to provide reliable and easy-to-understand information for breeders who often rely on informal advice or outdated sources. The guide explains the stages of pregnancy, how to prepare for foaling, possible complications during birth, and early care for newborn foals. It also includes diagrams, practical tips, a vaccination calendar, and recommendations on preparing essential veterinary supplies.According to the student authors, better access to accurate information can help breeders respond more quickly to complications, which is crucial because the window for veterinary intervention during foaling is often very short. The project was developed under the supervision of veterinary experts and supported by a national academic funding program promoting regional research initiatives.
