Szeged, Hungary — August 7, 2025 — The University of Szeged has announced the launch of a groundbreaking national enrollment training program in collaboration with Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) in China. This unique four-year undergraduate program in Computer Science Engineering BSc will begin this fall, offering Chinese students an internationally recognized dual degree.
In a model not commonly seen in China, the program will allow 120 students annually from across the country—not just Shaanxi Province—to participate. Students will complete three years of study in China and spend their final year at the University of Szeged in Hungary.
The partnership, initiated in September 2022, marks a milestone in Hungarian-Chinese higher education collaboration. The program will focus on the latest advancements in engineering and information technology, and students who complete it will receive diplomas from both institutions.
The University of Szeged’s Dr László Nyúl, head of the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Science and Informatics, will serve as the Hungarian coordinator of the training. Cao Zheng Yin, the university’s advisor, played a key role in establishing the program.
Currently, a group of SNNU students is visiting Szeged as part of a summer university program, which began with two weeks in Xi’an and concludes with two weeks in Hungary. The program introduces students to Hungarian language and culture, and includes visits to institutions such as the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park and the ELI-ALPS Laser Research Center.
At a welcome event, Prof Dr Péter Zakar, Vice Rector for International and Public Relations, expressed his hopes for a fruitful collaboration and enriching experience for the Chinese students. Dr Tamás Bene, Director of International and Public Relations, also highlighted the university’s esteemed history and Nobel laureates, such as Katalin Karikó and Albert Szent-Györgyi.
The educational exchange is coordinated by Prof Dr Anett Árvay, a linguist and Hungarian studies expert. The students will return to China on August 9.
Looking ahead, the University of Szeged plans to further strengthen its Chinese relations by launching a Chinese language specialization this fall and pursuing additional research and education partnerships with institutions in China.
