Alba Ramirez Guijarro, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Klagenfurt, is researching the intersections between Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophy and artificial intelligence. Her dissertation examines questions central to Wittgenstein’s work—such as whether machines can think and the role of “language games” in understanding meaning—and their implications for AI development. Supported by a fellowship from the Ramon Areces Foundation in Spain, she connects Wittgenstein’s ideas with advancements in natural language processing, noting the philosopher’s influence on algorithms like Word2Vec and Glove. Guided by Wittgenstein expert Volker Munz at Klagenfurt and co-supervised by Alois Pichler of the University of Bergen, Ramirez Guijarro hopes her work will inspire deeper reflection on language, knowledge, and technology.
