Researchers at TU Graz are using lab-grown mini-organs, including a mini-placenta and mini-uterus, to study pregnancy complications and test drugs safely. Led by Sahar Ghorbanpour, the HerPlacenta team simulates real physiological conditions in bioreactors, enabling research that cannot be done ethically in humans or accurately in animals. The work aims to improve maternal and fetal health, develop better diagnostics, and advance understanding of organ interactions during pregnancy.
