
The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) has announced the leading candidates for the 2026 academic leadership elections. Among the nominees are two professors from University of Pannonia: Pósfai Mihály for president and Gelencsér András for secretary general.Pósfai Mihály is a geologist, founder and head of the Environmental Mineralogy Research Group and the Nanolab electron microscopy lab at the university, and a full member of MTA. His leadership program focuses on strengthening scientific excellence, supporting young researchers, and developing the academy’s governing bodies.Gelencsér András is an internationally recognized researcher in atmospheric chemistry and aerosols, leading the Atmospheric Chemistry Research Group. His program emphasizes enhancing the societal role of science, connecting research with public policy, and increasing the international visibility of Hungarian research.
