Early-career researchers at University College Cork (UCC) have been awarded a total of €4.3 million under the 2025 Government of Ireland (GOI) Postdoctoral Fellowship and Postgraduate Scholarship programmes. These highly competitive awards support researchers pursuing cutting-edge work across sciences, engineering, arts, and humanities.Highlights:39 UCC projects funded, including studies on autism support pathways, intertidal ecosystem drivers, black hole spin and galaxy evolution, leadership in SMEs, and drug-microneedle treatments for skin cancer.Postdoctoral projects include research on mRNA-based cancer therapy, maternal microbiota and brain development, and scientific evidence in EU environmental decision-making.Nationally, €36.3 million was awarded across 341 projects.Minister James Lawless TD emphasized that early-career researchers are “the lifeblood of Ireland’s research system,” and Research Ireland CEO Dr Diarmuid O’Brien praised awardees for their creativity and ambition.UCC Vice President for Research and Innovation, Professor John F. Cryan, congratulated all awardees for advancing innovation and research excellence.
