
Tara Grattan, a third-year student at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin, has been awarded the 2025 Tim Scanlon Corporate Law Bursary by leading Irish law firm Matheson. The annual bursary, named in memory of the late partner Tim Scanlon, recognises students who demonstrate exceptional legal insight and research skills.
Ms Grattan earned the prize for her essay analyzing the impact of Brexit on Ireland’s corporate regulatory framework, praised by Matheson for being “insightful and well-researched.” Along with a €5,000 bursary, she has secured a place in Matheson’s summer internship programme. In recognition of Tim Scanlon’s appreciation for the arts, she also received a piece of artwork by Irish artist Niamh Flanagan.
Michael Jackson, managing partner at Matheson, highlighted the importance of nurturing future legal talent through the bursary, emphasizing that it challenges students to apply critical analysis and innovative thinking to real-world legal issues. Nicola White, Director of Learning and Development at Matheson, noted the high quality of submissions, reflecting the excellence of Ireland’s law students.
This award represents a significant milestone in Ms Grattan’s legal career, reinforcing her confidence and opening new professional opportunities while commemorating Tim Scanlon’s enduring legacy in corporate law education and mentorship.
