Marine Banse, a doctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Functional and Evolutionary Morphology of the University of Liège, has earned two prestigious distinctions recognizing the quality and originality of her work in fish bioacoustics. Her research focuses on the evolutionary mechanisms of sound communication in aquatic species.
She received the Fishes Travel Award 2024 from the scientific journal Fishes (MDPI) in March 2025, which funded her participation in the renowned Indo-Pacific Fish Conference (IPFC). There, she presented her doctoral research and won the Best Presentation Award on June 13, 2025, for the event’s top oral presentation.
These achievements also highlight the University of Liège’s international standing in fish acoustics research. The laboratory, led by Professor Parmentier, integrates histology, physiology, animal behavior, and phylogeny to better understand the evolutionary processes of aquatic sound communication.
