
In March 2026, a delegation from the Université de Namur traveled to the Philippines for the inaugural symposium of the Global Research Alliance of Jesuit Universities (GRAJU). As a founding member, UNamur took part in launching this international network of Jesuit universities committed to research addressing major societal challenges.The alliance, established in August 2025 with seven founding institutions—including Ateneo de Manila University, Fordham University, Georgetown University, ITESO, Sogang University, and University of Deusto—now includes 25 member universities. GRAJU promotes joint research projects, academic exchanges, collaborative funding, and the ethical engagement of Jesuit institutions in society.The first symposium focused on artificial intelligence, exploring how Jesuit universities can guide its development in ways that respect human dignity. UNamur was represented by Stéphane Leyens, Vice-Rector for International Relations and Cooperation, and Sabine Henry, Professor of Geography and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences. The delegation met with partner universities and local institutions, strengthening long-standing collaborations and creating new opportunities for joint research.The next symposium will be hosted by the University of Deusto in Bilbao in June 2027, focusing on “Democracy, Pluralism, and Citizenship.
