The University of Gdansk hosted a regional consultation meeting for the National Strategy for the Internationalization of Polish Higher Education and Science, organized by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The event brought together representatives of universities in the Pomerania region, including rectors’ delegates, student and doctoral representatives, and university leadership. The meeting, led by UG’s Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Internationalization, Prof. Anna Jurkowska-Zeidler, focused on integrating internationalization into Polish higher education not just as a goal, but as a tool to enhance educational quality, meet labor market needs, and strengthen civic engagement. Dr. Wojciech Karczewski, NAWA Director, presented progress on the strategy, including plans for an inter-ministerial team to identify strategic international partnerships and address areas of economic need. The consultation emphasized that the strategy will serve as guidance rather than a directive, providing universities with practical tools and recommendations for implementing internationalization initiatives. After regional consultations, the strategy will undergo further review by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP) before submission to the Ministry. The initiative reflects a collaborative approach, aiming to incorporate perspectives from all levels of Polish academia to increase the global visibility and competitiveness of Polish universities.
