University of Jyväskylä has joined a major EU-funded quantum pilot project aimed at strengthening Europe’s leadership in quantum computing. The initiative, known as SPINS, focuses on developing semiconductor-based spin qubits and advancing quantum chip production for future technologies. With a total budget of €50 million, the project brings together 25 European research institutions, industry partners, and academic groups. It aims to create scalable and high-performance quantum systems that could transform fields such as medicine, materials science, secure communications, and advanced navigation. The University of Jyväskylä contributes its expertise in silicon-based quantum technologies and advanced measurement methods. Participation in the project will also provide valuable opportunities for students and researchers to engage in cutting-edge quantum development across Europe. The collaboration is expected to strengthen Finland’s position in the global quantum technology race while bridging the gap between research and industrial applications. The project officially launched on 2026.
