The University of Jyväskylä is set to host Finland’s largest and longest-running international summer school from 4–15 August 2025, bringing together hundreds of students from around the world. The Jyväskylä Summer School, now in its 34th year, offers a multidisciplinary programme aimed at enhancing STEM skills, fostering international connections, and providing unique academic and cultural experiences in Finland.
This year’s edition features 24 courses, five more than in 2024, with core themes including quantum physics, probability theory, and secure intelligent technologies. “The summer school supports multidisciplinary study and internationalisation while also offering valuable networking opportunities,” said Jani Moilanen, Chair of the Summer School.
The event not only benefits international participants but also provides “internationalisation at home” for University of Jyväskylä students, who make up around one-third of attendees. “These multicultural groups offer new perspectives and prepare students for both academic and non-academic careers,” added Vice Chair Vesa Julin.
Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, the summer school has been credited with boosting the university’s national and global reputation. Many former participants have returned as visiting lecturers, researchers, or doctoral candidates, strengthening Jyväskylä’s academic networks worldwide.
The 2025 programme also includes an open lecture on cybersecurity, highlighting the school’s focus on timely scientific and technological themes.
