Ana Baliza and Mariana Veloso, alumnae of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon, have been awarded the 2025 Book Design Prize for their work on the book dança não dança. The publication, co-edited by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda, was praised by the jury for offering an engaging and performative reading experience that blends content complexity with playful and participatory design.
Special mentions were also awarded to Sofia Gonçalves, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, for the design of Problemas do Primitivismo — a partir de Portugal, and to the studio Macedo Cannatà for Os Ovários das Papoilas.
Additionally, 17 other books were selected to join the 20 works representing Portugal at the Best Book Design From All Over the World 2026 competition, organized by the Stiftung Buchkunst in Germany. These works will be exhibited at the Leipzig Book Fair in March 2026 and later at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.
The Book Design Prize, created by DGLAB in 2017, aims to highlight the work of professionals in book design and printing while promoting Portuguese works on an international stage.
