The University of Miskolc has paid tribute to its former students with a heartfelt jubilee diploma ceremony, recognising alumni who graduated 50, 60, 65, 70, and even 75 years ago. The event, held at the university’s Senate session, celebrated graduates from the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering and the Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering.
Dr. Roland Szilágyi, Vice-Rector, opened the ceremony by highlighting the enduring value of professional dedication and the symbolic importance of the diplomas. “These acknowledgments go beyond certificates—they reflect entire life paths and careers,” he said.
A rare granite diploma was awarded to an engineer who graduated in 1950, alongside iron, diamond, and gold diplomas for alumni from 1960, 1965, and 1975 respectively. The honors were presented by Prof. Dr. Gábor Mucsi and Prof. Dr. Árpád Bence Palotás, the respective Deans of the faculties, with Dr. Szilágyi also in attendance.
Speeches from golden diploma recipients Mr. László Bársony and Dr. Gábor Búza added a personal touch to the event. Prof. Dr. Mucsi emphasized the faculties’ commitment to innovation and international reach, noting the presence of alumni from countries like Vietnam.
The ceremony concluded with alumni tying commemorative ribbons to the faculty flags—a symbolic gesture honouring both tradition and progress.
