With the February 15 deadline fast approaching, prospective students are entering the final phase of Hungary’s general higher education admission process. To help applicants prepare, the University of Szeged has launched an information series outlining the most important steps of the application procedure.
The general admission process allows students to apply for higher education programs starting in September. Applications must be submitted online through the national E felveteli system, where candidates can select and rank the programs and institutions they wish to apply to.
The structure of the system gives applicants flexibility but also places responsibility on their decisions. Students may choose from multiple programs, rank them in order of preference, and based on their admission scores, secure a place in the highest ranked program for which they meet the required threshold.
University officials emphasize that ranking is not a technical detail but a strategic decision. Applicants can only be admitted to one program. The system automatically assigns them to the first program on their list where their score reaches or exceeds the official admission cutoff. This means the most desired program should always be placed first.
Careful planning is therefore essential. Students are advised to think through which field of study represents their primary goal, which alternative programs they would also consider, and how factors such as funding form and study schedule influence their choices.
Up to six programs may be listed in the application, with the first three free of charge. Marking multiple options is recommended to increase the chances of successful admission.
With just days remaining before the February 15 deadline, the message from the university is clear: informed decisions and thoughtful ranking can make the difference between uncertainty and a well planned academic start in September.
