The University of Turku has maintained its position among the world’s top universities in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). Published on August 15, 2025, the Shanghai Ranking placed the university in the 401–500 category, the same position it held in 2024.
Among Finnish institutions, the University of Turku shared second place with Aalto University and the University of Oulu, while the University of Helsinki ranked highest at 94th place. Globally, Harvard University secured the top spot.
The ARWU evaluates over 2,500 universities annually and ranks the top 1,000 based on six indicators, including Nobel and Fields prizes, highly cited researchers, and publications in leading journals such as Nature and Science.
The Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects will be released later in 2025.
