International floorball star Veera Kauppi has graduated from the University of Vaasa with a Master of Arts in Communication Studies, proving that elite sports and higher education can go hand in hand.
Playing professionally in Sweden’s top league for Team Thorengruppen, Kauppi balanced her demanding athletic career with her studies, completing her degree remotely while competing internationally. Flexible study options and strong support from the university allowed her to adapt coursework around major tournaments.
Kauppi began through the Open University of Vaasa before entering the degree programme in 2020. She now applies her communication skills in KauppiTwins, a coaching and lecture company she runs with her twin sister Oona.
Encouraging young athletes, she says:
“Education brings balance to an athlete’s life. Even a basic interest in studying can open doors—open universities are a great place to start.”
Her achievement showcases how universities can support students in combining professional sport and academic success.
