
Doctoral student Barry Yuk Bun Wan from the Department of Music Education and Culture at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen has won the main award at the PAYSAGES | COMPOSÉS – Écologie sonore festival in Grenoble, France. His multimedia project, Sonic Cartography. Kraków – Sound as Pigment, combines urban sound recordings with experimental electroacoustic and acousmatic techniques to create an immersive sonic painting of the city.
The award-winning piece will be presented as a spatial audio installation during the festival, allowing audiences to experience the sounds of Kraków in an innovative and atmospheric format.
Faculty leaders praised the achievement, highlighting the intersection of music, art, and pedagogy, and the recognition of UWB doctoral students on an international stage.
The project was supported by the TALENT 2025 program, funded by the vice-rector for creative activity and doctoral studies at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
