Veronika Ruzickova, an assistant professor at the Institute of Special Education Studies, Faculty of Education, Palacky University in Olomouc, has built a distinguished career in special pedagogy, focusing on typhlopedics, vision therapy, and spatial orientation instruction. Recognized for her innovative work, she has received multiple awards, including the Magister Optimus Award for pedagogical excellence and the Rector’s Award for her research on 3D tactile models used in vision therapy.
Ruzickova’s journey in special education began with a passion for supporting individuals with sensory impairments. Initially interested in surdopedics for students with hearing disabilities, she shifted her focus to typhlopedics, working with individuals with visual impairments. Her advanced training in vision therapy at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, Prague, equipped her to provide specialized rehabilitation, teaching patients to maximize their residual vision and navigate the world independently using tools like the white cane and Braille.
Her work integrates innovative methods, including 3D tactile models of historical sites such as Buchlov Castle, allowing visually impaired individuals to explore spatial environments through touch and guided learning. Beyond clinical practice, Ruzickova actively teaches and mentors students at Palacky University, contributing to the development of future special educators.
Balancing teaching, therapy, and research, she also leads projects funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR) and has authored numerous scientific publications. Her work exemplifies the integration of pedagogy, therapy, and technology to enhance the lives of visually impaired individuals in education, healthcare, and society.
