Vysoké učení technické v Brně (VUT) and Vodafone have launched 5G-SHARE (5G Shared Academic Research Environment), the largest private 5G network in the Czech Republic dedicated to scientific research. Operating since 1 January 2026 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEKT VUT), the project enables ultra-low latency, secure, and fully controlled 5G testing environments for applications such as edge computing, IoT, autonomous systems, and quantum technologies.Funded with hundreds of millions of CZK from EU sources, 5G-SHARE fosters collaboration between universities and accelerates digital innovation. The network connects laboratories across Europe using extended reality (XR), supports research in cybersecurity, optical networks, post-quantum encryption, and provides facilities like BUTCA Cyber Arena and #VodafoneUniLab. Partners include Atlantic Technological University (Ireland), POLITEHNICA University Bucharest, and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania).Jaroslav Koton, Dean of FEKT VUT, emphasizes that the project merges theoretical knowledge with cutting-edge infrastructure, while Veronika Brázdilová of Vodafone highlights its impact on society, industry, and the Czech digital transformation.5G-SHARE is part of a larger €17 million European initiative, including €12.3 million in EU funding, aimed at developing new forms of education and knowledge sharing through 5G technologies.
