n May 24, the University of Szeged (SZTE) proved once again that it’s not just about academic excellence, but about community, care, and connection.
Held in the stunning SZTE Botanical Garden, the university hosted its first-ever Family Day — and it was such a hit, they’re planning to make it a tradition.
More than 500 university staff, faculty, and their families gathered under palm trees and tropical greens for a science-filled, music-backed celebration. Kids explored microscopes, met real researchers, and got their faces painted, while adults joined in crafts, nature tours, and even a lakeside storytelling session.
The event also launched a new exhibition featuring the floral artwork of biologist Dr. Maderspach Katalin, reinforcing the bridge between science and creativity.
Dr. Saághy Andrea, HR Director at SZTE, shared the bigger picture:
“We’re building a Family-Friendly University. This event shows our dedication not just to education, but to the wellbeing, health, and happiness of every member of our community.”
It’s no surprise that SZTE was nominated for “University of the Year 2025” in the family-friendly institution category — along with innovation and culture.
