The Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave marked the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with a morning of dialogue, reflection, and interactive activities at its Barcelos campus. The initiative aimed to bring science closer to students while highlighting real experiences and career paths in research.
A central roundtable discussion focused on professional journeys, challenges, and opportunities for women in science, addressing issues such as underrepresentation in certain fields and the importance of visible role models for younger generations. The debate also highlighted progress made in recent decades and ongoing efforts to strengthen research environments and attract more young people—particularly women—to scientific careers.
Complementary activities included an exhibition celebrating women who have made significant contributions to science and an interactive quiz designed to promote dynamic and participatory learning. Together, these initiatives reinforced the message that science thrives in diverse, inclusive, and collaborative spaces.
