
The Japanese-born linguist, who specializes in Slavic languages and corpus linguistics, has been teaching Czech and conducting research in Slavic studies in the United States for many years. Her academic work focuses on discourse analysis and linguistic research using large text corpora.Since 2012, she has also been closely involved in interdisciplinary collaboration between Brown University and Charles University, bringing together scholars from fields such as linguistics, history, mathematics, and political science.In recognition of her contribution to Czech studies and international academic cooperation, the Faculty of Arts at Charles University awarded her a Gold Medal in 2026.Fidler first became interested in Slavic culture through classical music in her childhood in Japan and later pursued Russian and Slavic studies, eventually dedicating her career to teaching and researching Czech language and linguistics.
