The Gdańsk Medical University has joined the Partnership for Obesity Prevention and Treatment, a nationwide initiative uniting institutions and experts to promote effective prevention and treatment of obesity. The university is represented by Michał Brzeziński from the Department and Clinic of Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, Allergology, and Nutrition of Children.Prof. Brzeziński emphasized GUMed’s role as a scientific and research partner, providing up-to-date knowledge, effective practices, and guidance for public health policies at local and national levels. He highlighted that awareness of obesity as a serious chronic disease remains insufficient among policymakers, healthcare workers, and the general public, and stressed the importance of systemic prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.GUMed brings extensive experience to the Partnership through programs targeting adults (PP400M, Polkard, Polsenior, Obesity Treatment Center) and children (Program 6-10-14 for Health, Pediatric Obesity Clinic). Over half of adult Poles and 20–30% of children are affected by overweight or obesity, making it one of the most critical chronic diseases in the country. Prof. Brzeziński pointed out that effective prevention requires long-term systemic actions, including promoting physical activity and healthy nutrition.
