The Petőfi building of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Szeged has been fully renovated inside and out, transforming the former office building into a modern, energy-efficient university facility.
The 1.2 billion forint development, funded partly by the European Union and partly by university resources, included full thermal insulation, replacement of doors and windows, modernization of heating and electrical systems, IT infrastructure upgrades, and expansion of the solar panel system. Significant energy savings and reduced operating costs are expected as a result.
Interior upgrades introduced new digital education spaces, a podcast studio, an art center with a studio theater and gallery, as well as a baby-mother room for students with small children. Accessibility improvements and modern LED lighting were also completed.
The official handover ceremony took place on February 19, 2026.
