Dublin City University (DCU) has become the new home for the art collection of James McCreary, a renowned Irish printmaker, artist, and collector. The collection, comprising more than 160 works by leading Irish and international artists including AR Penck, Mick Cullen, Richard Gorman, Anne Madden, William Crozier, and Jane O’Malley, will be displayed across DCU’s campuses.A selection of 24 fine art prints is currently on show at DCU’s St Patrick’s campus, with more works planned to be exhibited in the future. The donation aims to inspire students, enhance the University’s cultural environment, and support academic research, particularly within the School of Arts Education and Movement.James McCreary’s journey in art spans decades, from early experiences in Dublin to printmaking at the Graphic Studio and collaboration with visiting international artists. Alongside his wife Betty, who has been a steadfast source of support, McCreary hopes his collection will introduce students to fine art prints, a more accessible art form than paintings, and ignite an appreciation for printmaking and visual arts.
