
South East Technological University (SETU) hosted the 2025 Cairn Community Games Track and Field and Outdoor Field sports finals at its South Sports Campus in Carlow on 23 and 24 August. Thousands of athletes and spectators attended the event, marking the fourth year SETU has hosted the finals.
The venue was selected for its state-of-the-art facilities, supporting a wide range of athletic disciplines. Events included sprints, hurdles, middle distance, relays, high jump, long jump, javelin, discus, shot putt, ball throw, long puck, and for the first time, rounders. Outdoor team finals featured soccer, tag rugby, Gaelic football, hurling, and camogie.
SETU’s Director of Sport, Donal McNally, praised the participants and the community spirit demonstrated throughout the weekend. The event was organized in collaboration with Cairn Community Games, Carlow County Council, An Garda Síochána, and the Carlow Community Policing Unit, highlighting strong community partnership.
David Hoysted, Chief Executive of Cairn Community Games, said the finals showcased talent, teamwork, and dedication, reinforcing SETU as a platform to inspire young athletes nationwide.
