A recent study by the University of Jyväskylä shows that sports club participation among Finnish youth aged 8 to 19 has increased since the 1980s, with girls now participating as much as boys. Despite these gains, socioeconomic and regional disparities persist, with lower participation in rural areas and among low-income families. Researchers recommend flexible, low-cost, and accessible sports opportunities during and around the school day to promote physical activity for all youth.
