Researchers at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem da Universidade de Coimbra (ESEUC) are evaluating the benefits of a specialized Vascular Access Team at the Unidade Local de Saúde (ULS) of Coimbra. The team supports patients with complex needs for vascular access, comparing outcomes with conventional hospital care. The study examines clinical results, patient experience, and cost-effectiveness. Specialized teams, already established in countries like Spain, UK, Canada, Australia, USA, and Italy, improve patient safety, reduce complications, enhance comfort, and allow more efficient use of resources. The team also provides training for healthcare professionals and supports research in vascular access care.
