
Budapest, Hungary — 13 February 2026 — The Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) Rector’s Cabinet and International Strategy Office have opened applications for the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, aimed at active PhD and Professional Doctorate (Research) candidates. The initiative encourages participants to present the essence of their research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience, fostering communication and presentation skills while promoting research visibility.
Candidates will deliver live presentations in English using a single static PowerPoint slide. The competition also provides a platform to network with other researchers and exchange ideas.

- Competition date: 11 March 2026, 4 PM at ELTE BTK Room of Doctoral Defences, Budapest
- Format: Three-minute spoken presentation; single static slide; no additional props or media
- Judging: Presentations are assessed for clarity, impact, and scholarly contribution
An institutional winner from ELTE will have their recorded presentation evaluated by the Coimbra Group’s international adjudicating panel. The top three candidates will advance to the international finals on 18 June 2026 in Granada, Spain.
The 3MT Competition emphasizes conveying complex research concisely and effectively, helping emerging scholars build essential communication skills for both academic and public audiences.
