A study by the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna investigated over 400 cats and their owners in Austria and Germany to assess feline well-being. The research compared owners’ intuitive assessments with structured evaluations using 54 indicators, revealing gaps between perception and reality. Key findings show that factors like body weight, age, and opportunities for natural behaviors often go unnoticed, while the human-animal bond and enriched environments significantly influence cats’ well-being. The study emphasizes combining owner insights with structured evaluations to support feline welfare more effectively.
