A major cryo-electron microscopy development project at the University of Szeged is nearing completion following the arrival of the final research equipment. The investment, worth about 4.5 billion forints and financed entirely by the university, will establish Hungary’s first cryo-electron microscopy platform. The new instrumentation center will include several advanced microscopes capable of analyzing nanostructures, biological molecules, viruses, and material surfaces with extremely high precision. These technologies allow scientists to observe structures at the nanometer level and study complex biological and material systems that are difficult to analyze using conventional methods.Researchers expect the facility to significantly strengthen research in materials science, nanotechnology, molecular biology, and pharmaceutical development. The platform will also support interdisciplinary projects and collaboration with both academic and industrial partners, contributing to innovation and scientific competitiveness in Hungary.
