
Two recent Mary Immaculate College graduates, Tomás Fitzpatrick and Oisín Flynn, have won the ‘Best Overall’ award at the Startup Atlas competition during the Limerick IT Summit. The duo founded ChessIreland, a start-up bringing structured chess education to primary schools across Ireland, while completing their Bachelor of Education.With mentorship from Dr David Cosgrave, Assistant Professor at MIC, ChessIreland has grown to work with over 40 schools and 10 community clubs, reaching 5,000 pupils nationwide. They also piloted Chess4Schools Live, delivering Ireland’s largest online chess event, reaching around 1,000 children weekly.
