
Professor Silvia Giordani, Chair of Nanomaterials at Dublin City University’s School of Chemical Sciences and Principal Investigator at the DCU Life Sciences Institute, has been awarded the Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana). The award, Italy’s highest-ranking order of merit, recognises her outstanding achievements in science and research.The award was conferred in June 2025 and formally presented to Prof Giordani at a ceremony in Dublin by the Italian Ambassador to Ireland, H.E. Nicola Faganello, on behalf of the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.Prof Giordani expressed gratitude for the honour, dedicating it to her parents and her late brother, highlighting the support and encouragement she has received throughout her career. Dublin City University President, Prof Daire Keogh, congratulated her, noting that the award reflects the impact and excellence of her research in nanomaterials.
