On the sailing ship STS Generał Zaruski, with a University of Wroclaw crew on board, set a new record in Arctic navigation by surpassing the vessel’s 1975 northernmost position. At 12:56, the ship reached 80°35′ N and 10°50′ E, slightly beyond the historic mark of 80°34′ N achieved 50 years earlier under Captain Andrzej Rościszewski.
The moment was celebrated by reading from Captain Rościszewski’s memoirs, recording the achievement in the ship’s log, and taking a crew photo before turning south.
Following the milestone, the research team collected water samples from beneath the Scheibreen glacier, studied zinc mineralization in local rocks, and documented post-glacial landscapes in Magdalenafjord. The voyage now continues toward Petuniabukta and the Adam Mickiewicz University research station, as well as the settlement of Pyramiden.
