A doctoral thesis focusing on parliamentary debate and political leadership has won the national competition for the best PhD dissertation in political science and administration organized by the Polish Political Science Association. The research analyzed 3,244 speeches delivered by leaders of major political parties in the Polish parliament between 2001 and 2023. Using statistical analysis and programming tools, the study examined how party leaders participate in parliamentary debates. The findings showed that party leaders are often less active in debates than regular members of parliament, and their participation usually increases shortly after they take leadership roles. The research also revealed that parliamentary speeches have become more confrontational in recent years, highlighting growing political polarization and harsher political language. The award-winning dissertation will be published as a book, recognizing its strong methodological approach and valuable contribution to political science research.
