Prague – Doctor Richard Pokorný from the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague has received a prestigious bilateral grant with the United States to develop new experimental and mathematical methods for analyzing corrosion in refractory materials used in glass furnaces. The project combines fundamental research with practical applications for commercial glass production and nuclear waste vitrification. The initiative aims to create predictive models that can determine corrosion rates from glass and refractory compositions, improving furnace durability and reducing operational costs. Collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in the US allows the team to merge advanced numerical modeling with tailored experimental approaches. The project also provides opportunities for students to participate in cutting-edge research and international exchanges.
