University of Ljubljana doctoral researcher Ziva Alif has been awarded the prestigious LOreal UNESCO For Women in Science Award for her outstanding research contributions.Alif, from the university’s Biotechnical Faculty, received the award for her interdisciplinary work exploring the social aspects of nature conservation in agriculture. Her research combines psychology and economics to better understand how farmers can be encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly practices.Her doctoral work focuses on improving agricultural policies through behavioral approaches, aiming to make conservation measures more effective and economically viable for farmers. The research also seeks to bridge the gap between agriculture and environmental protection—two areas often in conflict due to economic and ecological pressures.In addition to this recognition, her work has gained international attention, including an early-career researcher award from the REECAP network, further highlighting its global relevance.The LOréal UNESCO Women in Science programme has been running in Slovenia since 2006, supporting talented female researchers and promoting gender equality in science. This year marks the twentieth edition of the national awards, with selected researchers receiving financial support to advance their work.
