Final-year secondary school students from Scheppersinstituut visited the BruBotics research centre to explore how robotics can improve people’s lives. The interdisciplinary centre develops exoskeletons, prostheses, and social robots for healthcare, industry, and everyday support.Students observed robots that sense their environment, prosthetic limbs controlled by muscle signals, and exoskeletons reducing workplace injuries. They even tested EMG sensors and passive prostheses, gaining hands-on insight into the collaboration between technology and the human body.Doctoral researcher Stijn Kindt highlighted that BruBotics focuses on human-centred robotics, aiming to enhance safety, mobility, and daily living rather than replacing human capabilities. The visit inspired students to consider careers in engineering, medicine, and technology, emphasizing the societal impact of robotics.
