UCD Ad Astra Elite Sports Scholar Eve McMahon claimed gold at the Princess Sofia Regatta in Mallorca, marking the first Irish victory at the event in 10 years. In a thrilling final, McMahon overcame Britain’s Daisy Collingridge to finish just one point ahead.The 22-year-old BComm student from Howth is the first Irish female sailor to medal at a senior world championship. Her 2025 achievements include gold at the LA Sailing Grand Slam and bronze at the ILCA 6 World Championships in China. McMahon also became the first Irish sailor to reach number one in the World Sailing rankings.The Ad Astra Elite Sports Scholarship programme at University College Dublin supports students competing at the highest levels of sport, enabling them to balance academic and athletic excellence.
