Belgium | At the University of Namur, researchers have launched the SUSCARE project to explore whether a stronger focus on “care” in the workplace can help address the growing crisis in the world of work. The initiative studies how working conditions are changing due to increasing pressure, tighter performance control, and growing imbalance between professional and private life. The project is led by professors Nathalie Burnay and Michel Ajzen from the Faculty of Economics, Management, Communication and Political Science. It aims to define and critically analyze the concept of care in organizations and examine how it can contribute to more sustainable working environments.Researchers argue that many workers today are not only seeking employment but also meaningful work that aligns with their values. The project will run over five years and include literature reviews, statistical analysis of Belgian workplaces, interviews with employees and managers, and detailed case studies. The final output will include a white paper for managers and a professional study day focused on human resources practices and workplace well-being.
