Sweden | Researchers from Graz University of Technology and the Complexity Science Hub have developed a statistical model showing how multiple identity factors influence the formation of friendships and marriages. The study reveals that people tend to form relationships only when all evaluated personal traits are perceived positively, leading to highly selective and often homogeneous social groups. Based on large datasets from schools and US cities, the findings help explain social segregation and suggest ways to improve interaction between diverse communities.
