
Austria | A Central European University graduate is playing a major role in shaping Ethiopia’s financial future through the country’s first organized securities exchange. Atkilit Bekele, a CEU alum and General Counsel of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange, helped support the launch and licensing of the historic institution established in 2023.Bekele, who earned a Master of Laws in Global Business Law and Regulation from CEU, says her studies in capital markets and corporate finance helped prepare her for the challenges of building Ethiopia’s emerging capital market ecosystem. Alongside her work in finance, she also supports women’s empowerment in the energy sector as Vice President of Ethiopian Women in Energy.Through her leadership, legal expertise, and advocacy work, Bekele is becoming a leading figure in Ethiopia’s economic and professional development landscape.
