A junior college student pursuing Data Analytics has sparked discussion online after admitting that despite learning advanced mathematics and programming, he still feels confused about how to actually begin machine learning and AI projects.
The student says he already understands topics like linear algebra, matrices, calculus, discrete mathematics, and SVD, along with technical tools including Python, Java, R, Linux, Docker, SQL, MATLAB, and NumPy. However, he feels university courses have focused more on isolated subjects instead of teaching how everything connects in real-world AI development.
Now searching for the best way to become skilled in ML and AI, the student considered Andrew Ng’s popular Deep Learning courses but worried much of the beginner material might repeat concepts he already knows.
The post resonated with many students who said the hardest part of learning AI today is not coding itself, but understanding how to apply knowledge to real projects and industry-level problem solving.
