Belgium | An upcoming international congress in June will gather clinical psychologists, sociologists, and child welfare advocates to dissect the structural relationships between boyhood socialization, toxic masculinity, and the root causes of domestic and sexual violence. Organized by a prominent youth advocacy association, the two-day symposium aims to evaluate the educational and psychological developmental continuum from childhood to adulthood. The expert panels will focus heavily on how societal expectations of virility and emotional suppression shape male behavior. Clinical researchers will present data on the distinct ways young boys process trauma and sexual abuse, noting that societal pressures frequently prevent male victims from seeking help, which statistically heightens the risk of unresolved trauma manifesting as externalized aggression later in life. To counter these systemic issues, speakers will evaluate successful international policy models—such as equitable parental leave frameworks that encourage early paternal caregiving—and discuss therapeutic strategies for working with young offenders. The conference aims to equip social workers and educators with practical tools to cultivate empathy, emotional literacy, and non-violent behavior in young boys.
