Blekinge Tekniska Högskola (BTH) has entered a new collaboration with Försvarsmakten to launch the Special Technical Officer Education program (STOFU). The initiative allows students to earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree while simultaneously training to become military officers, addressing the growing demand for advanced technical expertise within Sweden’s defense sector. The program combines academic studies at selected technical universities with military training conducted during the summers and after graduation. Upon completion, participants receive both an engineering degree and an officer qualification, leading directly to employment as technical officers within the Armed Forces. At BTH, students can choose from degree programs in IT Security, Marine Technology, or Mechanical Engineering. The education is designed to provide a clear pathway into technical roles that support military systems, equipment, and operational units. The first cohort is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026, with applications open from 16 March to 15 April 2026.
