
Two Czech high school students have won the philosophy competition “Nebojme se myslet!” (Let’s Not Be Afraid to Think) organized by the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University Olomouc. The winners, Michael Černohlávek and Eva Švarcová, will represent the Czech Republic at the International Philosophy Olympiad.The annual competition aims to develop students’ argumentation skills and critical thinking through philosophical essays. This year, around 120 students from high schools and vocational schools across the Czech Republic participated in the first round. Twenty of the best contestants advanced to the final round held at the university.Participants wrote essays on philosophical topics, first in Czech and later in an international language. Their work was evaluated anonymously by academic experts based on criteria such as argument quality, logical structure, originality, and philosophical understanding.The International Philosophy Olympiad will take place in May in Warsaw, Poland, following last year’s event in Bari, Italy. Czech participants have traditionally achieved strong results in this global competition.
