
Dublin City University has officially launched the James and Elizabeth McCreary Exhibition at its St Patrick’s Campus, marking the donation of 160 fine art prints collected over five decades by Dublin-based artist and printmaker James McCreary. The collection features works by prominent Irish and international artists, including Louis le Brocquy, Jane O’Malley, A.R. Penck, Niall Naessens, Tony O’Malley, Maria Simonds-Gooding, and Michael Cullen.The donated prints will be displayed across DCU’s multiple campuses, in public foyers, lobbies, and boardrooms, providing students, staff, and visitors with the opportunity to engage with Irish printmaking from the late 20th and early 21st centuries.Speaking at the launch, DCU President Professor Dáire Keogh described the donation as “extraordinarily generous” and emphasized its importance as a resource for learning and cultural engagement. Marcella Bannon, DCU Cultural Arts Officer, highlighted the collection’s significance in capturing a rich period of artistic collaboration and experimentation in Ireland.James McCreary, born in 1944, has had a career spanning over sixty years, with works held in major public collections including the National Gallery of Ireland, the Chester Beatty Library, and the Crawford Art Gallery. He has been a member of Aosdána since 2005.
